Bias Breakers Flashcards increase awareness of cognitive bias, help people recognize when their decision making might be influenced by cognitive bias, and recommend steps that can be taken to minimize the impact of cognitive bias. Cognitive biases are represented as monsters. The novelty of the monsters, colors and formats works with the brain to make cognitive biases memorable.
Bias Breakers Flashcards show a clear, concise definition of a cognitive bias on one side and, on the other side, a list of specific actions that can be taken to minimize the impact of the bias. The simple, approachable format draws people to them so that they will learn what cognitive biases are and what actions they can take to make better decisions.
The cards are meant to be handled - don't put them away! Leave them out in conference rooms, on tables, or at desks. Leave them loose, not in boxes or clipped together. Make it easy for people to see and interact with them even if it's just picking up and stacking the cards, or looking at them while waiting for others to arrive at a meeting. The point is to provide a constant reminder of cognitive bias in a way that is fun and can't easily be ignored like a poster on a wall.
